If they accept your application you will get a phone call from the recruiter, it lasts about 10 minutes. At the end of that call he will schedule you for another phone call with corporate, it lasts at least an hour, at the end of that phone call, you will be told if they are sending your name to the DC. If your name is forwarded the DC the HR manager will contact you to set an appointment on when to be at the DC. When you get to the DC you will interview with the HR, safety manager, and General Transportation Manager, you will also do a pre trip inspection, a backing test and a road test, when you get done with that you will be given a conditional job offer and go do your physical and drug screen. A couple days after that you will receive an email for your criminal background check. Once all that clears you will receive a phone call for orientation. It took me about 9 weeks to get cleared, from application to orientation. About the shortest I have seen is 7-8 weeks and the longest I have seen is 4 months.

Drop a GM load somewhere in southern California then pick up a back haul going back to one of the DC's or pick up a 2-3 stop grocery load in Fontana to anywhere in socal OR dead head back to a DC for another store load or bring pallets from a store to the pallet yard in Mira Loma. It depends really. Or you can be sent to nor cal and sometimes Arizona. Pretty much any direction within 600 mi usually..

What FMFDOC said is correct. You want to pursue the online option. This is how they do it now. As to your other questions: I doubt you can go to the DC directly and apply. Call human resources and ask them if they will let you.

No, it does not make sense to apply as a yard driver or any other non CDL position. Walmart will be evaluating your commercial OTR experience. They want this to be current. If you start working in a non commercial position you will have a break in service. If that break in service stretches out to more than six months you will become disqualified. It's best if you do not have a break in service at all.

The best way to get an OTR position is to apply and go through the process. Do not go to work for a subhauler that pulls Walmart loads. Swift, for example. Working for Swift wouldn't be a problem, but if Swift put you on dedicated Walmart loads you become ineligible for hire until you are not longer working for Swift for about a year I think it is. It's an agreement Walmart has with the subhauler. The subhauler doesn't want Walmart trying on their drivers and then stealing the good ones.

To increase your chances: Consider applying to a DC that is hiring with the intent to transfer when you're eligible. Be persistent. Don't apply once and forget about it if you don't hear from them. Keep your eye openings and keep applying until you get the process started. If you get the process started it will lead to a job offer unless something specific in the process stops it. They don't put you through the process just to build a hiring pool. The process leads to a job unless something stops it. (failing the drive test or any other part of the process)

    Good luck.

The part about working as a subhauler I'm not sure about. 2 of the drivers worked Walmart dedicated. 1 Swift and 1 England.

We just had a driver who came from Dedicated Swift hauling our GR loads for the past 2 years make the move to the Walmart side of the fleet. So what Kentucky said is not true.

The reason why you don't see many subhaulers move over to the private fleet is that they don't have the experience or come nowhere close to the qualifications.
