Yesterday I ran a load a couple of hundred miles to a paper mill that didn't balance even with the tandems slid to the back stop. And I had to go through an open scale in the middle of the woods. I drove right on over and took off. Nobody chased me. I scaled out at 80,280 at the mill. I hated driving it like that.

80,280, the wheels all the way back and you drove it that way??

hope you aren't on the east coast, where kingpin-axle lengths are used.

I heard it's a cheaper fine than a overweight ticket. The company I'm at has a either 41' or 43' marker on the trailer. So if your past that then your good everywhere. I believe it's the spot that makes you Cali legal also

For those of you looking for the measuring tape...

The next time they stop you on the scale, with your drive tires stopped on the appropriate scale, if you look at your right side trailer wheels, you will see the painted mark for the 41 ft kingpin law in Tennessee. It’s not on the left, it’s on the right side.

That would be great if it’s not too expensive.
I wish our trailers were measure marked

Bridge law and kin pin to axle length are 2 different rules and are for different reasons.

You can read about them here: Axle Spacing And Tandem To Kingpin Length | High Road Online CDL Training

Roads with tight corners want you short for tracking... bridge want you long to spread the weight out.
