I lasted 2 months with this company. In that time, I averaged $400. I complained and their response was that I could have made more money if I didn't have to have a 34-hour reset. First of all, they didn't keep me busy enough to where I had to do a reset. For example, I only worked 4 hours on all weekends in 2 months. I spent every weekend just sitting around. For example, I was in Lebic, CA on a Thursday and they gave me a load to Victorville, CA for the following Monday. I think the distance was 113 miles for a 4-day load.
I had enough when they didn't even reimburse me for scales, and my taxi from bus terminal to motel 6 in Fontana, CA. I was told by Western Express that they would provide transportation from home to their terminal in Bloomington, CA. Every driver I spoke to was not reimbursed for scale tickets. I have never seen a more pathetic terminal. There is no room for parking anything. At night trucks are parked in front of the trailers making it impossible to take a trailer. I was even scared to park in bobtail lot They make the trucks park in threes. If I parked behind a truck, it was pretty common to have another truck park behind me and I could not get out. I finally ended up finding a place to park and avoided the terminal.
I am curious to know if Western Express pays for scale tickets?

I'm thinking that maybe you should ask your dispatcher this sort of question. And in case they check, make sure your logs match the times on your scale tickets. You know, on duty not driving.

Former WSXI driver here. Left Western just this year. First post but longtime lurker. Yes, officially Western does reimburse CAT scale tickets. Drivers must scan the scale tickets & upload it via Transflo at the end of the load along with their BOLs, receipts and so on to be reimbursed. While Western does not automatically pay for the ticket use the CAT scale app, drivers can use the app to pay for scale tickets with their personal debit card. If you using the app, you can download the jpg copy of the CAT scale ticket on your phone and upload the image in transflo app at end of trip. Payroll will accept this and it will save you time.
*HOWEVER* Western Express's office personal are, in general, *very* *very* incompetent. There's some good ones, but many bad. Payroll is the same way. Always check your paystub! if you haven't been reimbursed for last week's scale tickets, CALL payroll! Not your dm, not dispatch office, don't send any messages on your tablet. In my experience, all this will do is cause confusion & muddy the waters. Payroll will ask you for info, like what's the load# the scale ticket was transflowed under & so on. If it all works out they'll add it to next week's check.
I was in an accident & was stuck at Western for a year. It's a tough company with little to no support for drivers, everyone is mostly out for themselves and new guys either sink or swim. If your still with them Good luck!CatchUp, Hammer166, Voodoo Pyg and 8 others Thank this. -
Any trucking company that doesn’t pay for scale tickets UPON scaling our through the app or account etc is shady in my opinion. They’re hoping you don’t go through all the steps to get paid back. And lots of drivers forget, don’t bother or they just skip over some requests. When you’re talking about a large company with hundreds or thousands of drivers it adds up to a huge sum of yearly savings at your expense for them.Hammer166, 48Packard, hotrod1653 and 9 others Thank this.

I was about to say when I was with them they always reimbursed for scale tickets,as long as you scanned them in. They pulled so many heavy loads it was a necessity to scale them almost all the time!

Alternatively one could keep their receipts and claim them on their tax return, although you won't get a dollar for dollar refund by the Tax man I suppose. Best option is still getting reimbursed by the employer. Yep the company would need to have copies of all scale receipts to receive a refund. Sometimes those apps can cause issues also, I still prefer to take a photo and send it via email on a laptop.Lonesome, Another Canadian driver and Deleon Thank this.

It’s a good idea regardless of the company you work for to keep a spreadsheet with trip, expense and reimbursement info. Especially if you are working for a second chance outfit like WE.

I would like to know the origins of Western Express, history, ownership, how they're still in business. They are like the Dollar General of trucking, just selling cheap crap, as in their services. Put anybody behind the wheel and hope the customers freight gets to point B.

I drove for a flatbed company in Nashville name of XpressCo. Was owned by Wayne Wise. When XpressCo closed the doors, the next I heard of Wayne Wise was he started a new company name of Western Express.
In defense of Wayne Wise, he was the best owner I ever worked for and all the drivers and office personnel liked him. He didn't micro-manage and always gave the employees the benefit of the doubt.
He passed away a few years ago. I don't know what happened with management after he passed away. It was well managed during my XpressCo employment.
