Shortest load i ever did was moving some fuel 20 feet from a set of ground tanks to a temporary storage tank rack brought in for the purpose. Apparently because this little fuel station was next to a river it was actully cheaper to hire a tanker even with our minimum miles charge to pump the tanks dry into storage so they could fix a cracked tank then it was to get the permits to do it themselves.

Im not going to complain about an easy $500 (my percentage) for 2 hours of work but still i had to laugh.

If you get paid by percentage, short hops can pay unbelievably well.
Like in the Houston area, with all the ports and industry. Most drivers want a load out. I would sit in Houston and hit all the little short hops. For an OSOW, you could make $1000-1500 a load or better. Galveston to Houston, Katy to Baytown, Houston to Beaumont.

Good money well deserved on those short hops. We do el campo to ports 2500. All loads are heavy and big. Hundred miles or so and pilot car.

Ran some reefers 10 miles to fuel them. Doing that, a couple yard checks and shuttling a trailer up from Laredo. Got me an extra 650.

Well its difficult to differentiate between Regional & OTR sometimes even when you're company pays for you stay in a Hotel. Regardless, I would say now currently from Toronto, ON. to Montreal, PQ around 342 mi. Decades ago driving anything less than 6 hrs was considered short hauling.

I consider anything out n back the same day short haul. Weather it's running around town locally or 300mi one way out n back

I appreciated the stories. A huge variety of of things seem to happen in OTR.
