be really glad your not loading sheetrock in albuquerque.
you get an appointment time. some time in the afternoon. but in reality, it's first come first serve. and trucks don't get loaded till AFTER 1p.m.
What are supposed to be the benefits of the new HOS? I see none

The 30 min break will really hurt local delivery drivers (like food). I know I'd be jacked if I had to spend an extra half our on my route doing nothing when I could be finishing stops and on my way home. Specially since my routes were salary routes so the faster you got them done the better your pay per hour. And the new reset would've screwed me over since I worked 5 days plus a partial day saturday and started again monday morning 3am. Of course that company didn't believe in hos and used paper logs, but if they did run legit....

with my current run my 8 will hit a half hour before I get to my third of 4 stops. I usually take my half hour break at my last before I head back to the yard but now will have to take it at my second stop. This shall be fun. Thank god for paper logs so instead of a half hour unloading it will be 15 minutes unloading and the a half hour break.
Busasamurai and airforcetoo Thank this. -
dirtyjerz Thanks this.

OSHA requires 2 15 minute breaks and a 1/2 hour lunch break within 8 hours.
It has nothing to do with safety, but more along the lines of preventing employers from slave-driving their employees. Remove the HOS regulations, and watch your pay rate go down and watch how fast you get turned into a slave. Be glad you weren't around when the trucking companies actually competed against eachother.brsims Thanks this. -
Don't test a person's integrity and self-worth. Nobody is a slave to no one. If a boss decides to "slave-drive" a driver, a driver is free to move on. This has nothing to do with preventing "slave driving" because there is nobody riding shotgun in the passenger seat with a gun forcing a driver to drive this way or that way. A driver is perfectly free to break for 30 minutes, 2 hours, or not at all (under the old way) now, a driver is basically not only being told how to break, but when and for how long. It's stupid is the only way you can describe it. But I resent anyone telling me I don't have enough sense to not allow an employer tell me I have to drive 11 hours straight.
I suppose next we are going to be told we need to certify we are fully rested before we let the wheels roll, and if not, we are supposed to file a report to the state employment board releasing the employer from responsibility and asking for a work waiver until such time as a doctor can certify the driver is rested and fit to drive the remaining 3 hours. most of understand that in approaching the right city, at the right time, from the right angle ... 30 minutes rest can ultimately mean 60 minutes longer work time with additional traffic that filled in during that 30 minutes wasted. -
Yeah, you would be free to park the truck anytime you want. Your employer would also be free to fire you.brsims Thanks this. -
Doesn't anyone still "Roll-over" their recaps?HwyPrsnr Thanks this. -

That's like telling a group of drunks to determine when it's time to stop nipping from the flask.......Most will "nip" until they Black-out.....
