I wasnt trying to pick a fight Daycabber. Just trying to give him a few pointers.

I have had my authority since 1996, and yes I have been through an audit. I got a clean slate .

My operation is debt free also, as I dont borrow money, personally or in buisness. It is not rocket science I agree, but the fact is 70% of the new authoritys granted dont make it through the first year.

I always encourage guys to go for it, but I like to tell them what they are getting into. As you know some guys are used to being leased to a carrier and having a dispatcher lead them around and make all their decisions. LOL

Good Luck to Ya, and may you Prosper and make lots of Dough.

    Need help from you all.
    I own ..... no payments for a 2000 pete with 500,000 miles.
It needs brakes and tires. I have the title.
I also have a solid job making over 60,000 a year with benefits.
Yes. I will need a bank loan to get going, but what freight would you chase if I decided to get my own authority? No van. Maybe end dump for scrap or shredded metals.
Need some advice. The tractor is paid for, but before I put 25,000 in to it, I need to know EXACTLY which path to take.
    Thanks.:yes2557:

Ran under my own authority for years now I'm currently leased on and its a whole lot easier when you lease on specialy if they have a good fuel surcharge program my co. makes adj. every week, and will never go back to running my own auyhority ..........

Could lease on to a container outfit. They get me plates and insurance. Run their DOT and MC. 48 state tags
$500 a day. 40% of gross to FSC.
    You know.
But it might seem too good to be true. 2500 a week + 1000.
Take out 81 per week for tags.
    They cover cargo

Good or not really...... They own me, but it is a start

If you have your own authority skills in sales are probably more important than driving skills . You need base customers rather than just depending on load boards . I know a hotshotter in Alabama that runs 4 trucks - 3 Chevy 4500's and a Ford 7.3 F350 . They all stay busy . Brokers call him and know he won't accept anything under $2.50 a mile . He knows how to get out and sell his services . He also uses a good broker in Asheville , N.C. . Google hotshothauling forums .

Starting on a shoestring without at least a $10,000 cash reserve is the biggest reason most O/O's go broke . I wouldn't try it .
My son works at one of the largest scrap yards in S.C. . Business has dropped way off the past couple of months .

Could you hire your own drivers and trucks even though you are leased on to a carrier?
