In Poland Drivers sometimes must to have a rest just by the road, because on some roads there are no truck stops, parkings etc.. thats very dangerous. Maybe now is better than 5-6 years ago But the worst thing is when you must drive to Ukraine. There you just can't sleep. Drivers must to have with them pistol or something because (i don't know the word...) mafia can steal your trailer.. Welcome in europe.
Here's 1 for us old hands...The Meadowlands Motel and Truckstop on 1&9 in N. Bergen,NJ......Nasty,mean and rough. That was our switchout location in the 80's....
the worst of the worst,, Any of them in West Memphis. The best, IOWA 80 WALCOT and Bosslemems Grand Island.
T/A Ontario, CA they should buen it down, Back in the day it was a 76, and very nice....Now skank central
The worst truck stops....The Pilots in Memphis- T/A Gary,IN - The Pilot on the loop in Atlanta. Every time I stop there (Atlanta)It's like ALL the Crack fiends line up and knock on your door trying to get some change or sell you some thing you do not want.
I would say that the twin pilots in memphis and the east west TAs in ontario ca are bad. Someone earlier in this post reffered to them as being in fontana ca lol. Every trucker has diff favs that suit their own opinions i like the bosslemans in Grand Island lol and whiskey petes on the nevada cali border ha ha ha. funny though at that one you go in the casino and all the workers are chinese.. Yet outside their is a big cowboy. always thought that was funny
I know the Brevard County area in FL pretty well and would say the Viera area is safe (think walmart rest area); however, accidents do happen. I have owners/ company drivers leave their trucks for up to 2 weeks. You have a Walmart, Star Bucks, Burger King, Game Stop, Target, Subway within Walking distance. For Pet lovers, Petco is in that plaza as well. This stop is located at Wickham Rd exit (old 73) off I 95. I do not trust the local Pilot as its near bad Cocoa and would only fuel there. I however, do trust the yard off route 50. Its right off 50 going east. Hunter
One of our drivers was beaten and robbed at the Pilot in Corbin , KY earlier this week . He was in his truck and an individual told him he (the person outside ) had hit the driver's trailer and damaged it . When the driver went behind the truck several bums were waiting and beat him and took his cash . If anybody says they damaged your truck , stay put and tell them to pull their truck around in the row in front of you and show you on their truck where it made contact . If somebody says the rear of my truck is damaged I'm gonna start it up and pump the brakes and see if anyone runs from behind it .
Sorry to hear about your coworker. I hope he is ok. This is good advice. I might have fallen for this scenario as well. Although it would take a pretty good jaunt to damage the back of a trailer that would at least be felt by the driver. I might have asked the guy outside to describe the damage and then tell him that I am calling the police so we can start making the report. By then you can gauge whether he is telling the truth and then tell him I will drive over towards the fuel islands to get a better look.
