What are the worst states for loads for Owner Operators?

    I've never met an owner op that didn't make $5 per mile to the truck and clearing MINIMUM a quarter mil a year.

    $100 000 is a lot of money!

    To be exact: to be left with $ 100 000 (owner's pay included in that amount: so it is my own pay + my business profit) after all the costs of owner-operatorship.

    If you say, that this is still not good enough to be an owner operator then you must realize that the amount is very appealing to a lot of people, myself included.

    I (or, rather, my wife) do my level best to NET as little as possible while GROSSing a fair amount. Since our property is zoned agricultural, it's a bit easier than if we lived in town. I fully expect to be paid no more than $36k (probably less) next year before taxes. My wife will be paid $12k before taxes. Considering fuel at current prices will be $60k for the year, trailer $8400 and then all the regular maintenance issues (and even the irregular ones) one might think I'm operating at a perpetual loss, and that's just the way I like it. I only drive about 2wks/mo and that's just how I like it. WE will receive a tax refund and the business looks (on paper) to be operating at a net loss. Red is a nicer color than black, sometimes.

    With the rates going down and the fuel prices going up, you know that they only way to make consistent money in such a market is contract freight. However the contracts expire and get adjusted to new market conditions. With that in mind, an owner operator making 100k year net/profit/pocketed would be considered doing very well. Probably those who think it is more than that might not know what net/profit/pocketed actually means. But, in the recent good market it was probably 200k year. So, being an owner operator might not be all that worth it right now, but it totally was before.

    Mine does vary as well as my mileage pay, but my goals are very different from many others. I want to work as little as possible.

    Saying 5$/mile minimums and netting 250k, thats not the kindnof rate or dollars ive ever seen consistently, if it were, id be independently wealthy in the first year i owned a truck.

    Of course, its possible youre simply being snarky, and i didnt pick up on it
