I am now trying to transition my career into truck driving, from Information Technology (odd, I know). I think the requirements for IT recruiters are to have at least 1 year experience as a used car sales person and be able to learn the industry terminology. "Oh, so you have an MCSE+I, WOW!..., um what is that?" Sheesh!:biggrin_25513:

    One more thread hijack...

It is quite interesting to hear what type of professional backgrounds each of us come from. For me it was, straight out of high school, a couple years in carpentry/new home construction, then two years of college, 14 years in computer/information technology, then 6 years as a motorcycle/automotive mechanic. Now pursuing a career as a professional truck driver.

Jarheaddiver, Yea the IT world has no job security; where people are just a number, not an asset. No matter how good one's abilities are, it seems you have to be an expert at corporate politics more than an actual technician. It seems working as an automotive mechanic differs little, except you get your hands dirty...:biggrin_25523:

To Nam from high school, then 6 months of night fishing-day sleeping, 30 + years of construction work, most self employed.

The past few years spent getting my throat cut by illegals from south of OUR border, now to the point where it is practically impossible to make a living.

I do not consider a living (after all I have done) to be piled up in a trailer, or shabby apartment, with 15 other people eating tortillas and beans and pooling up to buy an 89 Dodge van that burns 4 quarts of oil a day and pollutes OUR environment.

But that's just me. If I were a Bush, or Cheney, I might eat that crap up, sitting on my ranch and watching those oil revenues keep piling and piling up.........

Living in Houston, TX. I have seen what your are talking about. My wife and I just had the roof on our house replaced last year. The total lack of skill on the part of the "workers" was extremely disappointing. So, not only have the south-of-the-border workers driven out the skilled people, they are doing terrible work too.
