What company should I go with

I am interested in opinions from drivers! about a good starter company. I've got per hires from PTL, Werner, CRST, Jet Express (Ohio), C.R. England, I've spoken to J&R Schugel, Watkins Shepard, Crete, Western Express, Millis, and a few others, all of which seem interested in me once I finish school. I've crossed off england, crst, werner, western express. I'm open to ideas. I am getting my funding through the W.I.A program so I don't need tuition reimbursement, I don't need to sign a contract. I've done my home work on some of these criminals lol. I know guys in the industry, I've asked them and many just say they all are #### and find a small company. So I guess as a last ditch effort to get opinions I came here to see what some of you think is the best company to start out with. I'm a worker by nature. So Flatbed seems like a good fit. I also like the idea of tanker work. Dry Van not so much. But I'm not above it, I'd do it if it meant I was with a good outfit. Let me know what you think fellas.

 

I'm with Navajo just finished orientation and so far no complaints super laid back... so far. go out with a trainer tomorrow

Don't believe everything you hear, such as "go with a small company" or "everyone in the known and unknown universe is drooling from the mouth for LTL or local jobs." That's BS, thousands of drivers have no desire whatsoever for local or LTL jobs or small companies and I'm one of them.

Boyd Brothers in Birmingham, Alabama is a really good flat bed company. My husband has been working for them for 10 months and is now a trainer. He was fresh outta getting his CDLs when he started! Good miles, pay and home time. He got his CDLs through CR England and they are a horrible company!

 

well you already crossed off the worst of the worst so you're on the right track lol.

 

If you aren't sure what you want to pull I know places like Prime offer tanker, flatbed and reefer.. Crete is flatbed, Dry van and Reefer. Both those companies pay well for noobs and you get options of what to pull.

I worked for Crete and trainers there are required to have 3+ years experience, they actually care about their training unlike most other mega fleets that have trainers with 6 months to a year experience *cough cough Werner cough cough*

Throw all those pre-hires you got in the trash. All of those companies are jokes, and will send you straight to the poorhouse. I would know, I worked for Werner and quit in six months after digging through my savings just to pay my bills. Try to get on with Millis, Crete or J&R Schugel (I work at J&R, they're a good outfit to get your foot in the door). Also check out Garner from Findlay, OH and HO Wolding from Wisconsin. As for flatbed and tanker, you can't go wrong with Prime.

 

Navajo is a good choice.

All companies listed above hire new CDL grads even if the website says "experience required". For example, PI&I Motor Express website has "one yr. exp. required", yet they recruit from CDL schools and several drivers that post on here were hired as soon as they graduated.
