Do these companies pay for the fuel or something? I'd like to know who these companies are, I just don't get it. I've heard of the governor setting on lease-purchase trucks, I'm sure somebody does it to guys that bring their own trucks.
You are running under their authority, insurance, tag, name ect pulling their trailers...... about all the large companies do it
You're really going to have to provide a reference on the fuel mileage requirement for me to believe it. I certainly wouldn't say "about all the large companies do it" on even the speed limiter, I know Landstar, Fikes, CRST Malone, and Mercer do not require trucks leased to them to be governed. It's been years since I looked at it, but Schneider and Werner at least didn't used to require a specific speed limiter setting either. Now on lease-purchase deals, e.g. Prime, I would definitely believe they wouldn't allow the lessee to change the computer settings.
I'm with Landstar and I know they dont care if you have an '87 Cab over just as long as it passes their Inspection. As far as Fuel, speed and etc. It's your truck, it's your business. Run it as you wish. Just be safe and legal.. Safety is the Biggest thing with Landstar. hope this somewhat helps..
There are many times I would rather have a train hooked onto my tractor than a 53' trailer as well. I can manuever tight intersections with a set of doubles or even triples better than with a 53' and have never hit a curb. They are as stable as anything else even in bad weather. I see far and away more 48' and 53' in ditches each winter than I ever see doubles. Sure they hit the ditch sometimes too, but not as frequent as regular trailers. Maybe it's because those of us that have pulled them for any length of time know what we are dealing with and drive accordingly. They are fun to use in construction zones and kick a orange cone or barrel off into the next county just by timing a wiggle right. Gotta have some fun sometime in this line of work.
