    Busy...dedicated account
Only average 10hrs of On Duty time ($15.00) per week. 2-3 loads
    Sunday-Thursday

I'm considering OTR, if I can clear 2k per week.

    2k in dollars or miles?

Considering the way things are right now you got a pretty good gig imo. Sure, pay may be a little light but it’s nothing to be embarrassed by.

You could probably get that kind of money from Walmart but from a mega or run of the mill OTR carrier $2k probably isn’t going to happen. Maybe make a couple hundred more a week but you’ll give it right back eating on the road every day.

Reefer, usually coast to coast runs, miles vary, 2400-3400 weekly. That’s a lot considering reefer usually has more time waiting to load and unload. I drive in anything and I drive anywhere. I’m not picky, every load is a mini adventure. Sometimes I’ll get a day or two out of the truck out on the road. I try and find things to do when this happens. 1500 miles a week would bore me honestly.

If you're taking home $1,100 on average at Schneider -- that is OUTSTANDING

In the current CDL job market -- I vote that you stay put -- ESPECIALLY if they are keeping you busy. o_O

Flatbed usually drives fewer .miles than van or reefer. The whole industry is slow now. Before Covid OTR for vans was 2,500 miles per week. Companies are not going to show less miles on the company website, if you foolishly use info from company web sites to find a job. Don't do that.

Remember you don't get industry average miles at any or every company. You might get the average miles at the one account at the one company you work for. Talk to current working drivers at a company before you decide. 99% of CDL drivers are not on this forum answering question. Ask the company you are considering to put you in contact with drivers on the account you will be hiring into.

I run linehaul for OD and my scheduled run is 3200 miles a week. I'm home every day and run far more miles now than I ever did running otr.

Where I'm at now, my weeks range between 2600 to 2800 miles per week on average. I have shorter weeks on occasion, and a couple of times a month I'll get 3000 plus miles in a week. If I could run that every single week, I'd set the world on fire. Very few, if anyone, is running 3000 miles plus every single week. Industry average is probably around 2200 to 2500 miles each week. 2k dollars per week OTR is pretty unlikely.

All that said, if you go to Schnieder OTR, or any other company OTR, it's a lot of moving parts to figure out how much you can make. In trucking, one driver's story is never another driver's story. I could tell another driver that's coming to my company, "Yeah, they'll run the dog #### outta you." From my vantage point, it's true. Yet there are drivers here that struggle to get miles. Climate is willing to run their drivers, but you gotta prove yourself reliable, and know how to maximize your time day to day. Also, you can't go to a traditional OTR gig, and want to be home every week and expect to make big miles. It takes running 3 weeks to a month at a time, and staying at home no more than a couple of days to keep your miles up. Higher performing drivers here will get 2800 miles or more here.

Each company has a style of running and various running lanes. I hear a lot of drivers at companies as large as Schnieder struggle to get more than 2200 miles weekly, because I've noticed that companies that large tend to regionalize their drivers. However, smaller companies with the ability to travel all 48, tend to be able to keep more drivers busy. You're less likely to slip through the cracks.

The biggest company I've ever worked for was Western Express. I stayed very busy over there. I was one of the lucky ones to have a good dispatcher in terms of keeping me loaded. Then I learned I could get certain loads off early. So if you go OTR, you'll need to keep all that into consideration. I saw what you're current gig is, and that's good take home for running so few miles. To be honest, that'll probably be your take home for more work going OTR. That's fine though. Some people prefer OTR, like myself.
