What do you have to defend yourself?

He actually panicked and opened the door? That was dumb.

 

The door wouldn't stop the bullets and I am not sure I would be able to move fast enough back into the sleeper which may or may not stop them either. Once the window shattered there would be anything stopping someone getting in...trapping you like a rat in your own truck.

What would you have done if you looked out and saw someone pointing a gun at you?.

 

Jumped back to the sleeper to get out my knives.
Then call the cops, if I had time.

Someone shooting blindly and in a rush is unlikely to hit you, and the first bullets would be against glass. And they are just as likely to bounce back and hit him, as shatter the glass.
Then he has to unlock the door to get in, which is attention away from you.
And there is some cover in the sleeper. He has to go around corners and the seat and steering wheel and anything else in his way (like the Coleman cooler in the middle), and he has no idea of what you have in there.
He could be facing a gun in his face, for all he knows.

If nothing else, he would have a knife in his eye as he shot me.

That kind of attack is made by a coward hoping for easy prey, not a soldier or professional killer.

 

Bullets won't be bouncing off glass or the thin sheet metal and plastic in doors and sleeper compartments, that is for certain. I do think you are correct in saying you would have somewhat of an "homefield" advantage, but a gun against a knife or bugspray or the other stuff mentioned in this thread?..you wouldn't likely be telling the story to anyone a few weeks later.

Yes it is an absolutely cowardly attack, but just as the attacker isn't a soldier or professional killer, how many truck drivers are?.

 

Plenty of us are trained in hand to hand combat. I'm not saying we're all experts, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been shot at.

 

Keep a pocket bible in your back pocket and say "I'll gladly give you my wallet...after you've heard the word of our Lord."
Then you read them the bible until they get bored and wander off.
Then you get to yell at them "HAHA YOU STUPID #### GO TO HELL"

What if your attacker is also using common sense?. Whose common sense prevails?.

 

Use the insanity defense. Get naked, roll in blueberries and beat them with a sack of concrete phallicly shape objects.

 

Might wind up getting shot anyway to put you out of your misery.
