What does the term "dove tail in" mean?

We have a winner. That is a "dovetail". The latter scenario is an "endtail"

wow sysco bought out US foods? will have to call up my buddy from US and see how thats working out for him, I always liked US Foodservice much better than sysco when I was a chef so im sad to hear of this one especially since those were pretty much the competition to each other.

 

I've "dove-tailed" twice. If you're at a company with a seniority based driver board, it means transferring to another terminal while keeping your seniority rank at the new terminal. It generally happens when service territories are changed, line-haul lanes are shifted, or two terminals are merged. It's happened a lot in the last few years with most of the big ltl carriers.

Here an end-tail is a voluntary transfer to another terminal when there is no shift in freight. At this company you don't need to resign so you keep your pay rate and vacation but you go to the bottom of the seniority board.
