Doubles/Triples, Tanker and Passenger require no more testing of training than what is required for getting a CDL with GEneral, Combination and Air Brakes.

School Buss and Haz-Mat will take extra. It 'think' that you cannot get haz-mat unless intiated by an employer. But I could be wrong.

Passenger will require you to take your test in a vehicle that can carry passengers.

Not much difference, other than including seats on your PTI and a different style of door. Might be missing a couple minor things, but none of them are hard at all, if you are in the proper vehicle.

HazMat does not require an employer. Both times I have taken the tests (had it, didn't retest when I moved so I lost it, then took it again) I was unemployed.

For anyone who thinks getting endorsments IS NOT a distraction over and above getting the CDL, Ffffffffine----go ahead and get all the endorsements including and especially HAZMAT.

Then report back here and let us know how easy it was and that i shouldn't have raised such a fuss etc.

    Trucker puhleez

Concentrate on the real deal first, then you can do all that other "jazz."

i would get haz-mat at a minimum but the more you have the more diverse you can be then after a while you can drop the ones you feel you dont need

Okay, done. No problem. It was all easy and no fuss. None of the endorsement tests, including hazmat, are rocket surgery.

So yer saying that going thru all the fingerprinting bs and the "invitation letter" is not a distraction to getting the actual CDL? Come on.

Also, while the hazmat test may not be rocket science, it's still a Mf'er---you can't just gloss over it and expect to pass i don't care how much you know about chemicals.

i'm telling anyone getting or trying to get their CDL:

GET THE LICENCE FIRST, THEN WORRY ABOUT ALL THE ENDORSEMENTS AFTER YOU ACTUALLY GET THE LICENCE.

You need to be able to drive the truck first before you can start worrying about all the extra "ornaments."

    Dave75 Thanks this.

If a one-day task of filling out one form online and getting your fingerprints done, plus a few hours of studying later on, is so mentally tasking that it blows your chances at getting your CDL, you should probably stick with McDonalds. I don't know about you, but they mailed my letter to my door. No distraction or time wasted worrying about it. Most of these guys are going to school for weeks or months. Even if they spent two solid days hitting the books for the endorsements, would it really make a difference in their ability to drive the truck? I seriously doubt it.
