What goes on behind the scenes as far as getting loads?

    I think you should focus on the question and not on your negative attitude/political views.


    It is correct that the CARRIER gets paid $2 per mile and pays the driver .32 but remember the carrier needs to pay all the truck costs, employment costs and other various costs (O/O are their own carriers).

    The BROKER is a middle man between a shipper and the Carrier. Most larger companies set up contracts with shippers so they do not have to pay brokers. Brokers have their own contracts with shippers and they are responsible to find carriers to move the frieght and take a % for their time setting up the shipping and negotiating rate etc. I assume with the brokers contracts there are also penalties for not being able to move product so thats where negotiation comes in between carriers and brokers and why rates change from week to week. supply and demand of a FREE ECONOMY (ok thats my political spike lol)

    Does that make sense?

    I am by far not an expert but that is what I have understood from studying the business

    Office salaries (Operations, Dispatch, Company executives, Maintenance dept, Recruiting, Sales, etc)
    Health insurance/Benefits
    Tire rreplacement
    Preventative maintenance
    Repairs/breakdowns
    Non-paying customers (collections)
    Driver training (Background checks/drug testing)
    Advertising if any
    Office supplies/equipment
    On-board computer/tracking devices
    Im sure I've forgotten some besides the unexpected crap that seems to always come up

    And for the OP, I hope you don't think that the $1.68 is pure profit because in case you didn't know, all of the above items are not free. So I would think twice, if not 3 or 4 times before you decide to get rich.
