They'd been rode hard and put away wet and we spent the first year with them in the shop. If I remember right we kept them for four years until our off highway hauling came to an end. We sold them to some gyppo in Canada and last I heard two were still going.D.Tibbitt, stuckinthemud, Rideandrepair and 10 others Thank this. -

I don't know. I think Hayes sold to Paccar in the middle 70s and Pacific lasted, albeit under American ownership, until the 90s. I'd have to look it all up. That's a lot of years ago and I never thought there'd be any interest in those old monsters. We weren't much on taking pictures or keeping records. They were just something new to drive and learn about, ya know? I drove the Hayes for 1 1/2 seasons in the late 60s and then graduated to a highway truck. Mine had a quick change where I could drop my logging bunk, unhook the dolly, slap on a 5th wheel, and haul rock with a bottom dump. I liked the rock trailer 'cause I could run flat out uphill, downhill, and around the corners. Flat out was about 47 miles an hour.dwells40, D.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair and 11 others Thank this. -

I
I only turned over once. I was reaching in my lunch box for a sandwich and came to switchback I'd forgotten about. I couldn't make the turn so I just let it run up the bank and fall over. I was only going about fifteen mph on a hard pull. The boss came up with a Cat and a heel boom loader and put everything back together. Put a gallon of oil and some water in truck. He told me he didn't have time to be running all over the woods putting me back on my feet so he'd take it kindly if I wouldn't fall over anymore. I didn't.dwells40, D.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair and 13 others Thank this. -
