yes, in a truck hauling munitions going to Nellis AFB from Crane IN -
This goes back to the mid 90’s

you used to have to call the Nevada Hwy patrol and hour before you got there - they didn’t do crap but you still had to call…
It was THE way back the for everyone, unless you went through searchlight and that was a several hour detour.

Dad went to an estate sale many years ago looking to buy some older farm equipment... An old Heston "Hay Master" small baer came up for bid... A scrap metal guy bid $50... Dad bid $100 as the auctioneer called "going 3 times" but wasn't heard or seen bybthe auctioneer. Scrapper was awarded the bid, until a guy close to dad made the auctioneer aware of the $100 bid. Dad went home with the baler... $200, and a weekend of wrenching on it and its the best baler ive ever operated... Chuggs away like an old Singer sewing machine, dads been using it every year for 15 years now. Even had a neighbor offer $2000 for it a few years back... But dad wont sell it. I wouldnt either.

One of my cousins was looking around some of the things to be auctioned by a construction business that went under. He saw one of those welders that can be towed behind you. It was marked inoperable parts only. My cousin is a tinkerer. He was wounded in Vietnam and is close to 100% disabled. He loves a good project like this from time to time. The welder was part of a larger lot and he paid close attention to who got that lot. Afterward, he approached this person and made them an offer for that welder. If I understand the story correctly he got that welder for almost nothing. Spent some time rebuilding the frame to get rid of a lot of rusted metal. Replaced the axle and tires. He removed the engine and rebuilt it. He said he put about $800 into the welder all total. This was a few years ago. According to his wife he has made that money back doing repair work around town for folks.

It is amazing to me that some people have that eye. They can look at what appears to be a piece of junk and see a diamond!
