Way back when, we would pull some insulated "bunker and blower ice boxes" and were hauling crated fruit out of Lakeland, Fl to Red Owl in Minneapolis.
Feature was the insulation, oranges/grapefruits was in 90 lb wooden crates and only required little heat up above St Louis usually. Go on up to Grand Forks for potatoes back, or come back down to Osage, IA and load eggs for NYC. So at time we ran some quality snow and ice but not in massive mountains.
So me; young, hot all weather driver asked if we had any chains. Yeah some in the shop somewhere. why? I'd like to have them, just in case really run in to it and needed. So, here they are where you want them? I had seen some laced on the trailer bumpers in Lakeland so said, on the trailer bumper.
Arrived in Lakeland with my "Ice Road Trucker" advertisement on my bumper. Enjoyed the attention they drew to my obvious hazardous distant destinations.
Load and sail north. Rolled into our usual truckstop at Clear Lake, IA and got out. Had a round roll of iced chains size of a 50 gal oil drum enclosing my trailer bumper. Paid a hand near their shop $10.00 to melt them off with the steam cleaner and toss up in the trailer. Left at shop when back and that was my carrer chain experience.

Lol well that sounds something I would do

With my flatbed I had a rack on my trailer to hang them from... I just put together a poor mains Chain rack.. A bunch of s hooks I stole from my bungee, and they are hanging from a s hook that is tightened around a bolt... see how it holds up and if it gets me thru this winter.. Think when I get the motivation, I will go find a couple bolts with a eyelet and hang them from that...

The nice thing about my cables is I can roll all 4 of them up and bungee it together like a tarp and throw it in the side box with 1 hand...Just didn't have a place for the chains

Maybe having them mounted on backside of trailer will keep them from sticking together in the snow, unlike those chain holders on the side of the frame in front of drive tires, make u wanna jump off a cliff dealing with those once u gotta break em out and use them
