We once prided ourselves on the question asked by the stroll in/by saying: Ya'll aint hiring are you?. Sure... You think you are tough enough to work for us?

Myself, two partners, and a young really good apprentice hand. We worked from 8 to 5, M-F. 1 hour off at lunch. When we had the work or parts and other events got us behind, we just bowed up.

Stopped at 5, washed up, got in a pickup and drove 1 block to a Western Sizzlin Steak house. Everyone ordered his selection. one ticket, paid from petty cash.
Finished up in about an hour and back to the shop. Back at it till 10. Me and partners on salary, hand got inch and a half.. Well spent money.

We would occasionally have a high school student wanting to become a lift truck mechanic thru the DO program. Think we sent one to the Good Year store here who later became manager of the branch. Another to FMC as mechanic helper and before his 1st year was up, advanced to Lead maintenance man.

One young lady came to work in our office. Outlined our job, phone, take msgs, post time cards, put the parts used on the RO's. She seem to be overwhelmed. I told her, that is the job, and it has got to be done, regularly and correctly. She cried and said she did not know if she could do all that.
I said; sure you can, you are not stupid. (Mother and dad were in KD and DO divorce process) And it had affected her.
I told her; your folks are not you problem, that is them. You need to learn so you and your mother can make a living together.

She worked out very well but sorta arms length feeling all time employed. 2 years after she had graduated and left, she called me.
Mr Johnson, I am calling to thank you for what you did for me while I was working for you. I just did not understand then, now I do.
I got a job with XXX Insurance a week after I graduated. Yesterday, I was promoted to office manager. Thank you.

3 steps to teaching a job:
Tellem Why.. I am paying you to do a job.
Show them How..... Do a few or explain the pieces as THEY assemble it.
Make Em Do it..... As you leave; mention you are going for coffee, be back in ?? , should have ?? done.

To little time and speed/power. When we were running LA for Beneke, there were scales on MS river US82 going out, down AR165 about halfway to Monroe (no Coop/Paved pad-Have a pic somewhere), hit US80 at Monroe, run past Shreveport and down in the bushes on US 80/79 now to Waskom, was a coop but not fully manned. Seems like from there to El Paso on US80, none. Thru El Paso was a coop on the RH side of US80 for NM POE. From there on to San Simon, nothing. San Simon on to reaching near Yuma and turning up go up thru Salton Sea and to Whitewater scales. Made it.
Going out, toilet seats weight was legal. We just pulled in, bounced his beam and the speaker said " Go Ahead". Coming back with dried beans or fruit, we scaled close by the loading point for axles and rolled.
Only place I ever recall getting out to show and tell was at San Simon. A lot of "alternate" side/cross roads available then.

An excellent policy. But it don't hurt to shake the feed in the bucket outside where they might hear.....

We stopped for indigenous fueling at an indigenous Peelot.

There was currently no wait for a clean, hot shower. So the driver capitalized on this.

Pressing onward towards THE COMMUNIST STATE now.

Currently within 125 nautical miles of The Casa Del OM.

Could be wrong but as I understand it there cannot be ability to access.

Agreed. If a person has stayed out of trouble for a certain time there should be a way to make that happen, especially if we’re talking about somebody that forgot to dot an “I” on a tax form versus one that committed a violent felony such rape or murder.

...As evident by today’s unfortunate trip to Wal-Mart, which was followed by a necessary stop at a liquor store.

I’ve had quite enough of humanity for the next 36 hours.

Humanity is fine, it’s people that are the problem.
