Reminds me. Say about 10 years back, Ford had a poor choice diesel engine in maybe the F (sumpin series) pickups. Go a few K, engine blows. Ford recalls/issues bulletin/starts eating..
Daughter lived in RR TX then and I would go down, stay a week, come back home. I was aware of the model and began to notice the Ford dealers from Round Rock as far up as Henderson had beaucoup of these truck on the front line of their used lots. Inquired casually and was told the story.
Truck came out, engine capabilities extolled, and the oil field big operators renewed their fleets.
The engines crashed; Ford gulped, and the dealers slapped in replacement engines, put on the used ready line and resold. Counted 12 duplicates coming thru Corsicana once...

All this to ask: What did they put back in them and what experience did the later individual buyers have with the trucks? Same engine, blow again? Better engine, had a later model good truck.

Towing outfit I worked for back around 2008 or 9 bought a couple brand new ford wheel lift trucks. Had all kinds of trouble with em. Diesels. Think they had coolant going places it shouldn't. Finally pawned em off and got a couple Dodges.

After Ford discontinued the last decent diesel they made, which would be the 7.3L, they partnered with Navistar to create the 6.0 which had emission parts on it and was therefore a turd. Then they made the 6.4 which was an even worse turd with not one but TWO time bombs... er, I mean EGR coolers.

Now Ford is back on their own with a new 6.7L that they designed themselves, which seems to be holding up far better than its two predecessors.
