I'm thinking the kitty and vagrants are the worst 2, the others have pretty much always been there in one way or another. Well actually downtime is in there too because that makes paying for all the other hard.

I talked to a Southern tire mart manager. Was getting steer tires. The best performance store manager gets a Rolex. Is that out of 10 or 20 stores don't know. But he thought it was a cool incentive for a yearly goal.

I’ve only been in maybe two, but they seemed like a decent tire shop. Clean and efficient, prices were comparable to what I get at home.

In my experience the ones that get those prizes are the ones that actually listen to the people doing the hands on part of the job, not the ones that are too busy counting pennies too talk to you. Male or female. Had a female manager that got the prize 4 years in a row, VP asked how she's doing it, she points out toward us and said, I listen to them, if I hear we need this from multiple people and we've been renting I buy it, if they say we are wasting time and money with a current way of doing things I listen to their thoughts to improve on it. She didn't know #### about the trade but she made money.

    A little background here.....
How Two Brothers Became Billionaires -- And The Richest People In Mississippi

    And some more...
The Duff brothers, Thomas and James, did not directly invent or implement specific technologies to speed up the tire recapping process. Instead, they acquired and expanded Southern Tire Mart, which included a substantial retreading operation, and leveraged the advancements in the industry that were already taking place.
Here's how they contributed to the success of the retreading business:
    • Strategic Acquisition and Expansion:
The Duff brothers bought Southern Tire Mart, including its retreading business, from Bridgestone/Bandag in 2003. They then expanded the retreading operation to include various types of tires and service offerings.
    • Leveraging Industry Advancements:
The tire retreading industry was already undergoing technological advancements, such as the use of computer-controlled equipment and techniques like computer-controlled buffing and extruding. The Duffs integrated these advancements into their operations at Southern Tire Mart.
    • Cost-Effective and Fuel-Efficient Retreads:
By offering cost-effective and fuel-efficient retread tires, STM was able to help commercial customers and partners manage their tire maintenance costs. This focus on value and performance helped drive demand for their retreaded tires.
    • Focus on Quality and Safety:
STM's retread tires are refurbished through a rigorous process that includes repair, inspection, and ensuring they are safe and viable for continued use. This commitment to quality and safety contributed to the success and reputation of their retread business.
    • Direct Management and Employee Focus:
The Duffs took a hands-on approach to managing Southern Tire Mart, including having all 82 store managers report directly to them. This close involvement helped them drive efficiency and improvements throughout the business.
In essence, the Duff brothers built on the existing advancements in tire retreading technology and focused on strategic growth, quality, and customer value to significantly expand their retreading business and achieve industry leadership.
