I've lived in the north bay area for 43 years and have loved it. Met and married my wife here 33 years ago and raised 3 kids here. Having grown up in the Midwest, the biggest factor for me living here is the weather. We have 4 seasons, but no snow. Today I woke up at 4AM and it's 30 degrees outside. The conditions need to be just right for snow, and the last time it happened was about 15 years ago. Summers are mild in the 70's and 80's, and when it gets too hot, the marine fog rolls into cool things down. I've been an avid ocean fisherman the entire time I've lived here, and that's what I enjoy doing with my free time. If I want to see snow, I drive 3 hours to Lake Tahoe. Yes, the politics and cost of living suck here, but I can't think of a better place to live. I won't go near LA or SF for anything. People who complain about calling it Northern California are the same people who don't think twice about the Midwestern US, which is nowhere close to the middle of the country.

Spend a couple days off of the jammed highways and check out the sites. You will probably change your mind.

There are a lot of threads lately asking about shifting. Is it a bad thing that I have no idea what rpm or speed I shift at? I shift when the truck needs another gear...... should I be paying more attention?

Probable for a lot of subjects yes (you do live in Flor-EE-Duh)...... Shifting is most likely not one of them.
