Steep little downhill in TN. . My exp on it was on the old road before now 4 lane divided. Quite kinky, steep, and no runaway slots.

    Summation:
The term "Monteagle, TN downgrade" refers to the steep and historically hazardous descent on Interstate 24 (I-24) through the Cumberland Plateau near Monteagle, Tennessee. The mountain's dangerous reputation stems from its grades, especially on the original US 41 alignment, which posed challenges for drivers, particularly truckers, due to steep descents, sharp curves, and narrow lanes. While I-24 is now safer than the old highway, its grades (up to 6%) remain a hazard, and truckers are advised to use safety precautions like slowing down and using the truck check station.
    • Location: The downgrade is on I-24 as it descends the Cumberland Plateau.
    • Hazard: The descent is known for being steep, with a grade of up to 6%.
    • Historical context: The old US 41 highway through Monteagle was considered "America's Most Feared Road" due to the dangerous conditions.
    • Modern safety: While I-24 is an improvement, the grades are still a concern, and drivers, especially truckers, are advised to be cautious.
    • Trucker advice: Drivers are often advised to slow down before the downgrade, stay on the main road, and use the truck check station located there.

I axed dad what was the coldest he ever worked in. He was from this area. 38 below he said. That was actual temp. Once you got a vehicle started you didn’t turn it off till quitting time.
