The OM said to put a disclaimer on that post about Mike Bashing. I should have listened.

Guess I've lead a strange life as to drinking. Out of school and driving with 6 others at a company, in on Saturdays, Buy a bootleg pint together and roam around joints and cafes. Some were married, some not. Time passes, change jobs, OTR in day cab, layovers TS bunkhouses then, or a hotel. Seldom drank while out.
I enjoyed a good drink, whiskey, gin, or tequila. Our loads to Vera Cruz, MX offered the Mex beer and tequila. The 6 months in the Army in the PI in barracks were beer, pool playing, cards with the troops. But I never got a "taste" or need for it. Up until Peggy died; we would enjoy drinks when out, mostly on occasions like birthdays or anniversaries, old chums meetings. As more times passed, and medications increased, I cannot drink. So, all worked out. I am no stranger to it, but don't have a burning desire for it. Strange too, was always able to hold it real well...

Actual case. Guy who drove for us at J.T. Garrard. Single, a top hand, stayed in the bunkhouse when in. Drank heavily when in, don't know about on road layover. BUT.
He would be in, and out eating, shopping, drinking, etc and come in to sleep. Would always have a little left in a bottle and set it down by the side of the bed. Wake up, his hand would ranch out around to grasp that bottle, uncap and toss it down. Lay there a few minutes, get up, S,S,S, & S, dress and leave out. Sort of a controlled alcoholic I guess.
(Only liquor I ever saw in the bunkhouse or why Mr. Garrard allowed. Verbal order; no smoking/no drinking in bunkhouse when hired in.)

True... We had a co worker at Bryan Packing, Go jukeing in Columbus. Last name Tullos, Choctaw lineage.
Get a few in, he wanted to fight. And it was one of us who brought him, not the rough/rednecks around. You could not sic him on others, just want to fight, no reason or cause... From very tight to falling down drunk, bad. Then put in the car outside and we party on.
Could talk to him about it the next mornings, and before going out any evening. He would discuss; pre apologise, but do the same...

A handy tool. Inconspicuous in transit, cab to duties. Easy to get out of clothing if desired, but capable of a surprise offering thru pants pocket, vest or coat. Big enough pill to treat the situation; and if 5 won't settle it, you should have considered things better....
