What is a shuttle driver in the trucking industry?

Next time they call, ask for $10,000 /month. If they really want you they will at least counter offer with say $8,000 - $9,000.

 

Middle of Palm Beach County. You know, the sparsely populated region known as South Florida. All joking aside, $22.40 per hour is prime pay for that area. Plenty of class A jobs being advertised for less than $18 per hour.

Would love to know where Food Service shuttle is paying $80K.

 

They won't offer anything close to that. They will find more than enough drivers to fill the position... until those drivers get fed up with hauling doubles and working nights for $900 per week gross.

 

That's my situation in Mobile, AL. Getting sick of this place town.

More on topic, this year I've done mostly Yard Jockey but also moved trailers to offsite warehouses with a Day Cab 15 minutes away. I've also done some OT work to our main customer about 30 minutes away.

One guy at our company just goes to Mitsubishi and back to our warehouse and chills on the dock on hourly pay. Probably a gig for people with seniority.

 

Well that makes more sense south Florida is absolutely terrible for trucking! I just went to Walmart yesterday they had a hiring sign meat cutters 21.50 an hour. I work for gfs I’ve never seen them hire shuttle/transit drivers off the street at my dc it’s a earned position for the most senior drivers.I’m guessing not all companies take care of their drivers good reason I’ve been here 10 years and never found a better company to work for.

 

The shuttle drivers I knew at my last job seemed to like it a lot. It was definitely easy. All they had to do most of the time is take 1 trailer from Indy to Kankakee, IL then drive back. They had the rest of the day off. Lol

It was salary. I think he got like 1450 a week, something like that. Not bad for driving like 6 hours a day Mon-Fri.

That was one of FFE's deals. Typically a driver has to start on a team truck collecting blood from the donation centers.

I never went shuttle because there was never an opportunity to earn more than 1450.00. You were locked in at that pay regardless and the job was just too easy. But a lot of guys liked it and some have been doing it for years.

 

900 a week is a slap in the face.

 

I live next to drop yard for Sysco , the terminal is a hour south . I was told 50 hrs a week or more being a shuttle driver .Wonder if you could comment on the hours , I want as many as possible .

 

I just learned something new... I thought yard jockeys did this. I've seen buggies do these runs from food and coffee plants .5-3 miles.

From my experience: if it's non-seniority based OT will be easy

 

Shuttle driver doesn’t have 1 definition different companies could mean different things. I used to work for an LTL company a shuttle driver would run short miles to a terminal then work on the dock for awhile then back to home terminal where a line haul driver would just drop and hook with no dock work involved.. I have no idea about Pyle but like Ashley furniture a shuttle driver would leave the plant and meet a road driver or might drop at a drop yard for a road driver to get later.
