What is it about the open road, or your specific job, that makes you like trucking

I meet really good people. Humble, salt of the earth, real people. Everyone is different. Everyone is going through some challenge and handle them differently. Most of the guys in my field are ex lawmen, ex military and ex cons. 50% of them live to ride.
In my line of work, the only person that can help you is the driver that went there before you. So, get out of the truck, be sociable. Make connections, meet good people and creat for yourself a network. Instead of trying to hold each other back and keep each other down, step forward, step up and tell the driver coming up behind you to step up too.

Monday, call my network and see where everyone is located and what they’re pulling. You can figure out where the money is or that week.

I now run local/regional, I try to stay within 100 miles of the house. I am divorced now, but still have no desire to really go back OTR or to even leave the state of Michigan. I think that is what I like best, close to home and the money is very good, and the time off it affords me is very nice. I can take a full weekend off and relax, but I still spend the week in the truck, much easier than trying to go home and go back out. Besides, I sleep better in the truck.

That is very good advice. I work around the same bunch, mostly local day cab drivers hauling auto parts. Man, talk about an angry group of guys. I try to help when I can, many times a new driver from another company will arrive at one of these automotive facilities, no clue what to do. I always seem to be the go to guy when questions are needed answering. LOL! And I don't mind, I was new once too.

My dad is an O/O still. Been trucking since the late 60's. I rode with him, and man it was the coolest. Talking to his friends on the cb, stopping and eating at the independent truck stops, watching that big cam pour smoke when he flattened hs foot. Leaving out at 3 am, just me and him, no cell phones, hanging out. Its no surprise I got in this line of work, although I could never predict how retarted the industry would become. The passion has faded some, but I do still love it.

I like the long drives. But I love parking out west where nobody else is around.
I thought the money would be good when I got in trucking, but now I've become an enthusiast and do it because I love it. I like driving in pounding rain, blowing winds, and snow, and chaining up on ice. From U.S. 2 in washington, U.S. 212 wyoming, U.S. 60 Arizona, U.S. 191 New Mexico, and Utah, to U.S. 20 Oregon. And others.

I like waking up in a different place every day. Or, I might get to travel down a road I've never been on before.
