This was 3 trucks ago, I loved the length, it had lots of room but was very noisy, and LOVED its fuel. It was very reliable, never on a hook once while I owned it and maintenance costs were low. There are days I think I could have spent the money to Insulate it with dynamat and have the oldman build me the rosewood cabinets he promised me, and I could still be driving it?? When I first started looking for trucks a few years ago, I knew I could not afford a 379 & the next best option was Volvo. Looked at several Volvo VNL430 & 630 mid roofs. Still think the exteriors look pretty cool. Heard all the stuff about great interiors, but seemed like someone stripped a 1990 Camaro interior & stretched it out. Did not understand it. Also did not like how far the motor was tucked under the firewall. If you are doing your own maintenance, it seemed to be problematic to me. Not saying I'll never look at them again & not knocking anyones choice in what they drive, just was not for me.

Found a T600 that was awesome a couple weeks later...other than it was yellow. It had some mechanical issues & the paint & had to pass on it. Not knocking anyone elses choice in color, it is just me. Then found a Pete 385 that was locally owned. Having access to the previous owner the first year made a world of difference too. It does not get the fanfare of the 379/389 nor the long wheel base. But same cab with a 230" wb & a 63" sleeper seemed to just be the balance between all of them.

That said, it is all in what one gets used to, the service network & part vendors/locations you make relationships with over the years. Same with Chevy, Dodge & Ford in pick ups.

I hate to hear about fuel mileage. I made good money as an owner operator driving a 379. Matter of fact I made enough money to buy trucks and we pulled flats, but the friend of mine that drove 55 all the time in a T2000 Kenworth didn't make it he went out of business in two years. I could run circles around him and made more money. I made money from volume not trying minimize cost. Just my 2 cents.

O Never really thought much of a western star didn't know that made enough body styles to need a name

Because you are a better business man doesn't mean anything other than your a better business man. He didn't fail because or inspite of his fuel mileage. The case still remains if you got 1mpg better than you do, add $12000 to your bottom line. My Pete was a c15 13 sp I averaged 6 over the year, I'm trying to keep my Volvo at 7.5 ( tho this winters a b$&@!) that's almost $20k I'm up. My accountant doesn't lie. Once again your choice, I just can't justify throwing that cash out the window to look cool, ill look cooler taking 3 weeks off and ridin around Florida on my victory and going to bike week. That's MY choice, I just hate the "your not a real trucker unless you drive a Peterbilt" BS. That's all. If that was the most important thing to me, believe me I would have one, I love the look of a long low lean truck, it's just time and circumstance has passed that era now "FOR ME". To each their own.
