I'm not trying to be a jerk here. If I told my wife I was going to quit what I'm doing to take a gig paying 18 an hour I'm pretty sure her response would be something along the lines of what child should we sell to buy food.

Health and life insurance alone is almost a grand. Our electric bill averages 200. We spend 600 to 800 on groceries.
Shoes and clothing probably averages over a hundred a month, and that's not including any formal wear. Good luck finding a prom dress for under 300 bucks. Guess we could shave a few bucks off the food bill but that's one area I won't budge on. I'm just not feeding my kids crap walmart processed box dinners.
God help us if we still had a mortgage.

I'm fully aware millions of families manage to survive on 40k a year, but I don't know how.

Being from SW Florida and knowing how hard it is to find a job down here that pays more than 16 bucks an hour I can sympathize with his thoughts of what he is earning is good enough for him.

Hey he did buy himself a job, but it's a job him and his family can work with and are happy with.

As far as the 50 hours a week he puts in that is door to door . You know how many hours are wasted by the everage person a week going back and forth to work ?

Heck my exwife only has a 4 mile commute but it takes her an hour a day .

I had a job that I did for 8 years that I liked the money and the conditions so well that i commuted 2 hours each way.

He is still putting 38000 a year towards the business and if he has 30 left after paying his ins and plates that is still a decent chunk of money he has to work with towards maintenance repairs and future truck replacements.
