What is the worst experience you have had driving OTR?

Amen to that. I've had people ask when they get to be considered "pros" rather than "new guys". Well, it's right there in Condo's post. You are a "pro" when you can do a "whoops" (we all do) and are able to figure your own way out of it. Doesn't have to be elegant, just gets you safe.

Over the years we've all had our share of "worsts"; some we talk about, some we don't. Some things out here we wish we could forget.

But there are far more "Bests" than worsts if you look for them.

 

I don't think anyone could be prepaired for that.

 

Would it be correct to say that you earned more that day then if you had been driving 11 hours that day?

One night my only option to eat was a Huddle House, I had the loaded chili special.

About 3am the gut gods decided to raze me from a comfortable sleep, well all I can say after that is trying to run and not cry out for a open stall is difficult when you eat the loaded chili special from Huddle House.

 

At least you had access to a stall. Try 3am at the customer's dock in an industrial park. With every business closed up tight until 7am.

Ahh, Pennsylvania. King of Prussia, cross the bridge into town, 1 mile left to receiver. Get into the left turn lane, ready to make the left turn, roll into the intersection, and the "bridge out 0.8 miles ahead" sign comes into view. Why they couldn't put that sign up where you could see it BEFORE you start the turn, I have no idea.

So, now I have to move right and continue straight. 12 miles and 30 minutes later, after negotiating one way, one lane roads with parking on both sides, lots of steep grades and turns, 'No Trucks' signs on roads that were wider and safer than the one I was on, 'you must not be from around here' looks from the locals and the police patrols, and GPS throwing its hands up and telling me 'through routing for trucks is not advised or prohibited', despite the "Truck Route" signs along the way, I actually arrive at the receiver.

Good thing about it is that I was unloaded in 10 minutes.

 

Ah yes, my experience in wind turbine construction helped me develop those skills. You generally don't have time to get down a 300 foot ladder when the urge strikes.

 

Very true and have been in that situation years ago as well with no way to get in to find a restroom, used to spot trailers between cities and the worst place possible, always at night and not in good areas of Atlanta. I know what you are saying.
