Something to keep in mind if you do eventually go with FedEx Freight: Linehaul drivers are required to do dock work on shorter runs, and Atlanta has a lot of those, so you’d be stuck doing that for a few years. I’m talking like less than 50 miles to the hub, work the dock for 5-6 hours, then 50 miles back to your home terminal. It still pays a decent amount (and an absurd amount at the top of the pay scale), but driving a forklift more than a truck is a dealbreaker for some.

Another thing to keep in mind about this: Hitting the dock for 6 hours nightly, on a 100 mile round trip dispatch, with appropriate task pay for the linehaul at top scale is over $1400 or $72,800 yearly for less than 8.5 hours of work every day and not breaking your back to do it.
