There’s always a place to get it unloaded. It’s Usually up to the broker, to take care of that with approval of the Shipper. Unless the freight is paid by the Receiver, which is rare but possible. Unless it’s in writing, your only option is to convince Broker or Shipper if necessary, you’re going to take matters into your own hands. Hopefully the fear of unknown charges and litigation will persuade the cheapskate Broker to suck up the warehouse charges. I had same scenario once. Ran a load ASAP and was expected to sit till Monday. Only when I threatened to take product back to Shipper, did they comply. They also short paid Me and charged a warehouse fee. I lost a bit, but have yet to book a load with Scott Logistics since. I have a couple of times called them on loads, then say, sorry you owe Me $$$$. Lol, Last time they almost begged Me to book with them. Lol

In reality you can’t dump the freight, and you can’t hold it hostage. I believe the way to do it is pay to have it put on a dock. Then get reimbursed for costs. Before releasing freight. I’ve never done that. Only convinced Brokers that I’m angry and don’t care and will dump the freight, which in reality, I would never do.

@Dispatch4YOU ...However this turns out, would you please let us know what happened? Especially the "who pays for what and how much" part.
This kind of debacle happens far too often and knowing how you resolve this might help others in the same situation.
    Thanks.

This just happened to Me Tuesday, I had 5 stops, I was a little late at first stop, usually not a problem. But receiving hours had changed, and I missed the cut off, Broker called Shipper and asked what they wanted done. Shipper had Me drop it at XPO across town. Logical thing to do, keeping all other appointments on schedule. When I asked, jokingly, “ How much is this going to cost Me?” Answer- nothing, with an apology that Shipper wouldn’t pay extra for additional move. My response was “ No problem”. Lol Things happen sometimes, it shouldn’t cost you revenue. It’s the Brokers problem, they may lose money. It’s up to them to deal with their problem with Shipper, after the fact.

I was wondering if there's anything in the broker carrier agreement or in the rate con that prohibits the owner operator from taking the freight to a warehouse.

I was just curious if anyone has ever seen anything like that or experienced anything like that.

These are some of the worst situations to encounter

No telling, the bigger the brokerage the longer the contract. I think it boils down more to the laws outlined in uniform bill of lading. Basically once you sign BOL it’s tenderred to you. I can’t see being held responsible, when it’s harming your bussiness. I honestly have no idea. But you do have a right to forward with another Carrier for unseen ( accident/ breakdown) circumstances with out Brokers Authority. That I’ve read somewhere regarding Authorities.
