My company gave me a 2025 Peterbilt 579, which was my last 2 trucks. But it has the electronic mirrors. The worst part is the actual mirrors are smaller and the top outer corner is cutoff. I have a hard time backing with these in the dark, especially with the huge ipad-like devices shining in my face. I did get the anti idle shutdown turned off. There's an older truck still with analog gauges with 173000 miles on it I'm going to ask for. My last truck was that year and I had few problems.

I'm actually really on the fence about it. On one hand, I do love the current truck, and I know there won't be any more ever built like it thanks to the gooberment. On the other hand, at the end of the day, it's just a tool to work with. But Snap-on tools are much better than Harbor Freight tools...

As a fleet owner, how would YOU handle this? Would you give the driver the option? Or would it be 'my way or the highway'?

The 18 will outperform a 10 any day of the week in hill country. And no emissions means better breathing performance and reliability.

Oh, wait a second, I don't care for your comparison, insinuating, Harbor Freight Tools are less quality than Snap-On. It may interest you to know, they are made in China, right next to Harbor Freight tools, but to say, the Star is less of a truck than a Pete, well, with a comment like that, I'm almost sorry I got involved at all. :biggrin_25513:

You obviously haven't held a Pittsburgh combination wrench in one hand with a Snap-On in the other. Their sets skip sizes too. WTF is that about?

Sorry, but nobody that uses tools for a living would ever put Snap-On in the same category as Harbor Freight.

Don't get me wrong, their Icon brand is ok for what it is and the US General tool chests are one hellova deal but they aren't professional quality like Snap-On is.

I had my 52" USG box parked right next to a 10k Snap-On box at my last tech job and we compared them side by thoroughly.

Snap-On was constructed better with more spot welds, better bends to increased structural integrity and the metal was slightly thinner.

Also, the drawer sliders were more robust on the SO and the drawers slid all the way out allowing full access to the rear when opened

I still could never justify spending that kind of money because I don't think it's worth it. The USG box will last a lifetime. The SO box will last several lifetimes.

Well, that's fine, but you are missing my point. According to what you say, there is a difference in tools and I agree, but my point is, the Western Star is every bit as much a quality truck as a Pete is, and not some Chinese knockoff missing sizes.

I've worked as a mechanic when I was out of high school. I have all Snap-on. I figured, if I gotta use it everyday, I might as well get the best. I have some harbor freight stuff I keep in the truck. There's no comparison in the quality
