Did you not check the freight that went on the truck? Or just let them load it and signed the BOL's?

    Let's be real!
Depending on what they paid for the original haul, I'd be inclined to take it back for not wanting to waste time and over complicate the situation. There is really little you could do to, being a hostage to an erroneous load - if you are a solo owner operator with 1 trailer and no warehouse space available. What he had offered should at least have paid for fuel worth of 500 wasted miles --- $300 + tolls + 45c per mile ($225) driver pay, I'd say...$500-600 would be ok.
If not, I'd still take that load back but then I'd refuse the get the original load and tell them...F.U.!. Well.... more or less.

No we were 250 miles from pickup with 700 to go. We lost a day, fuel and money. Lesson learned!

Alot of places are no drivers on dock. The insurance company rules. I always noted shipper count & load on Bol.

Yes, I've had a situation when the BOL was correct but the cargo wrong. I don't know what the carrier, I worked for, was compensated but I got paid for all the miles. It was also about 300 miles of going back.

We checked everything. The BOL had the wrong items. The shipper made a mistake.

As long as the shipper believes they messed up, it’s all good. Just remember to always check that the PU # or any other number on the load assignment (or rate confirmation) is present somewhere in the BOL and also that the receiver name and address is there. It’s the responsibility of both the shipper and the driver to ensure that the right product is loaded. I know your situation is different.

A BOL is a very important paper.

A old rusted lesson ringing in my skull comes to this"

Get off your ### and walk back into that ttrailer an COUNT the #### things being loaded by Shipper. List the items as well by count etc.

IF you can make them pause a minute yu will eventually have a nice tidy load almost finished.

Many of my later loads BOL signed "Shipper Load and Count." which pretty much eliminates the in person dock examination of one's loading accuracy etc at shipper.

The Shipper should eat the costs, his mistake. $500 minimum for fuel and Drivers wages, I would try to get compensated yet, if your leased onto someone. If a Company Driver, Miles driven should be paid.Dock time, that’s a tough one, but needs to be mentioned, to emphasize your total loss. It’s only fair, We do enough things for free, Driving shouldn’t be one of them. If your Boss doesn’t pay, I’d consider looking for a different job.
