You pretty much nailed it, I only left for more money once in trucking, and it turned out to be a disaster. I then moved into a company for a dedicated run, and it was amazing! until the company imploded after 12 months lol. Ole LTL has been good(ish) to me for 5 years, but today I just had enough and gave notice. No more LTL, no more Freight. Heading to Dump, hope it works, or else i'm switching to crime.
What would you do ?

(Although I completely disagree with your opinion of the the demographic of our team. We have amazing talent with a long tenure in the industry in Leadership and in Operations, many with 10+ years experience)
Anyways... I just wanted to add a little context here because you and I both know that sometimes not all the information is passed along during the recruitment process.
Someone sent me the link to this thread and said that I was mentioned directly....figured I was kinda entitled to speak on the topic.
Seth it's been a few years since you have been with Wellington. I believe back in 2021. Lots changes (especially in an ever expanding organization) I can completely empathize if things we're the way you expected when you were hired regarding orientation, and I apologize if you were given the wrong impression or harbour any feelings about your time here.
Right now, I conduct the orientation, its very thorough. We're also in the middle of receiving ISO certification so this means that there are proper processes and policies in place that are upheld by a high standard. In addition to this, both Mike and I are there to support drivers whenever they need assistance (on a day to day basis)
As a HR Professional, I am never trying to just find a Warm Butt for the seat, "WE" as an organization, are always looking for a qualified and dependable people to fill the roles. Truthfully, this role needs a professional driver that we can depend on- because shunting isn't for everyone. Some people get bored, and that's completely understandable. At the same time, it does require a lot of drop and hooking- so the driver needs to know their stuff, when it comes to the DVIR (pre and post trips) the last driver we had for this position retired so we're looking to fill the role with someone suitable for the position.
Regarding the salary, all our drivers are paid salary. this position is a full time role 5 days a week (60 hours, based on the shift) All our drivers have the opportunity to earn OT after their commitment. meaning you could work an extra shift a week if there are any available (between our 3 divisions)
In response to the acquisition of another company. That is also correct. We are in the process of acquiring a company. There is really no reason for alarm there. That company will continue to operate as normal - it just allows for more opportunities for our existing drivers if they are interested in a change it would allow for drivers to transfer between divisions.
Wellington has a very unique culture here. We have a large (and growing team) and there is a reason why we are happy and show our pride on social media. I am sorry if that offends people, but honestly I have worked for MANY companies in the industry, and none of them have "considered" the driver, as much as Wellington.
@classicxl I am not sure who you are, as you and I haven't spoken directly, but I hope you ultimately find what you're looking for.
All the best Drivers
Take care, Jessica.Magoo1968 Thanks this. -
- It is a Mon-Fri shift. The plant open at 11 PM on Sunday but the shift does not start until 2-3 on Monday morning. Then they close at 11 PM on Friday, but the driver is usually sent home a couple hours prior to that.
- there is not a recruiter on the planet who can accurately tell you what work will be available in 3-4 years.
- the ownership group at Wellington is good friends with one of the owners of the pet company. I don't know how many owners they have, I believe it to be 2 or 3.
- my apologies that I was late for a call.
- my daughter was making noise when we chatted after hours one night and my dog was barking; that can happen after hours
- there is no possibility of a 14 hour day as it is a shared truck
- personal relationships definitely do matter in business
- we are a younger office and we are proud of that; our president isn't someone who is out of touch and never in office. Our leadership team have all been working in transportation for 12+ years, many of them 20+ years.
- the one thing that you did get right is that I brag about paying salary; we guarantee our drivers pay even when work is slow and trucks are down.
Please let me know if anything else needs clarification.Magoo1968 Thanks this. -
Mike said it was a Mon-friday night shift but sometimes the customer opens at 11pm - midnight on sundays and I would then have to start at those times .Now he’s just replied saying they start at 2-3am Monday which is not what i was told . i also understand there’s no guarantees in life ,contracts come and go . At the same time you would have to be crazy to leave steady employment of 12 years and leave for a company who’s hiring for a contract with only 3-4 years left and no guarantee there would be anything for you at the end . salary is great in all but when one contract pays 75k and another one like your posting for tecumseh is only paying $68.250 any experienced driver would have to be crazy to leave a decent steady company for a uncertain future with a new company where your only working for one contract. i’ve been there done that and i don’t want to go through it again . there’s lots of trucking companies who have many different contracts that if they do lose one or two can keep you working. That’s what i’m looking for or a private fleet who hauls their own products or has more then one contract to keep me working . I’ve worked for one contract customer in the past and at the end of the 3.5 year contract the company had nothing for me . Never again it’s not easy finding a decent company who treats you right and i don’t want to have to take the first job in order to pay my billsLast edited: Jun 21, 2024
