What's a Lightweight Tractor?

I see in the Prime training pages that a new solo driver gets a "Light weight Tractor" What's that? Not a day cab, I hope

You loose about 18" of length from the interior space of the tractor for the ability to pull heavier loads than those with a condo. It puts you into freight that the lease operators can't legally scale. The benefit to you is more loads that are basically reserved for company drivers, and an increase of 5-cpm in your paycheck. Something to consider is that a condo at any carrier isn't exactly a rolling palace. If you don't like it, move over to flatbed division... most of them get a condo simply because they need to share the extra space with additional equipment that doesn't fit into the headache rack, or lease a condo.

 

They aren't as bad as some would say. I was in one for 6 months. I took the passenger seat out and had my Fridge and Microwave in it's place. I had a 22" flat Screen in the Sleeper and a Rolling WiFi hotspot. The only thing is, yes....you will lose storage space, but you can get pretty creative in there when you need to. The bed is just a few inches from your seat. They do get better MPG and I always got my fuel bonus and as a rule was in the top 5 in my fleet for MPG.

 

One of those tiny midroof peterbilts with the chrome exhaust pipes that rise about 6' over the roof.

 

Is those lightweight same as Schneider cascadia that pull containers? Basically no cabinets, turn around from the driver seat and there's the bed, probably can get the driver seat to touch it if you pull out back all the way. But have shelves space on top. Same? Been there for awhile, at first I hate it but made it cozy

 

Go to Home Depot and get creative with some shelving material. The end of your bunk from a few inches above your toes to the ceiling is wasted space.

They are close to that but with a shorter hood also. Keep an eye out for them as they will have a vent in the side of the hood.
