What's a reasonable otr cpm for a brand new driver

It wasn't at $13 an hour. It was at closer to $10 an hour.

 

I was using the numbers you posted.

 

I'm not saying $13 an hours is good it sucks. But at 50 hours a week and $13 an hour you would be at $35,000 you'll work hard for that at $0.36 a mile which also sucks which is my original point. And I don't care about he tax advantages I want payed for my time by the people I'm working for. I just thought about it, of the taxes are part of the pay package if you could get the rate down a little more you could qualify for food stamps.

 

Then you come work my factory job and I'll come work your truck job. Deal?

 

No but I won't drive for $0.36 a mile either. If that's my choice I'll come to your factory, won't have all the headaches.

 

Not a bad gig, $13.50+ an hour, 401k matching, good health insurance, sit on your butt all day only dealing with people who are *slightly* above mentally disabled, bosses and managers who are stretched too thin between 6 different teams to manage, Oh if you screw up what you're building, soldiers die.

But hey, "its not a bad job" right?

If I'm going to hustle, I'd rather hustle out on the road. At least the scenery changes there.

 

And $.36 per mile is starting out. Like i started out at 8.50/hr. You don't stay there. Put in your year, don't mess up, and it goes up.

Ok so now you're at 50 hrs per week making $35,750. The average US OTR trucker legally works 61.25 hrs per week or less. West Side Transport guarantees about $1,000 per week. Assuming you take home time you will be in the $45k+ range. Not to bad for an extra 11.25 hours of work per werk. That is lowballing it. Most OTR drivers make more than $45k a year.

 

36 cpm deiving at 60 mph is over 21/hr. Seems like a better paying job. You're not going to find many jobs that start you above 15/hr. Hell, when I started as a Certified Surgical Tech I wasn't making over 15/hr and that job required a college degree and I was helping to save lives.

 

You won't avg 60 mph. Closer to 35 or 40. If you guys are happy go for it. However, tax right offs and being homeless doesn't make for a good argument. Saying you only work 61 hours a week is a bogus argument too. You are gone for two, three, or more weeks.
