We have a main customer that will occasionally have a load that small going to a single customer. The only trucks we have on our fleet are "monster 18 wheelers" so that's what the freight gets loaded in. Sometimes that freight can be combined with others into an LTL load, but very often the time restraints don't allow for that. Why doesn't our company have smaller trailers or box vans for those tiny loads?. Because that would severely limit the back haul options to get that truck back to base.
I appreciate the answers. The backhaul oppertunites make sense. I can also smile when I get into one of those MOODS and start typing hype like Monster trucks, sheesh, I know better but sometimes... a monster is on the loose with the keyboard. He he he.
This whole idea, which is very cost effective, it doesn't cost much for round trip air fair, to get drivers exactly where they are needed maybe in response to the whole Walmart/Tracy Morgan incident. If you will recall, that driver lived in GA, drove 12 hours straight in his personal car to his assigned terminal in DE , then commenced to go on duty for his 14 hour tour, with disastrous results. My cat doesn't like to fly or I would give it a whirl.
