it was posted somewhere on here. that you can claim off duty. so long as your not actually doing the loading. your just sitting in the truck doing nothing while your trailer is getting loaded.

cuz that would suck if you had to spend most of 70 hours claiming ON DUTY getting unloaded or loaded. instead of driving.

From what I understand of the question, you are between loads. If that is correct, if should be no problem for you to secure your rig and go watch a movie, shop, whatever.

This happens quite often in the tank business. S.O.P. is the first 2 hours is covered by the load/unload fee. Anything over 2 hours is paid hourly. If I am not involved in the physical unloading of the tank I hop in the sleeper birth and still get paid. One of my favorite loads takes 8-10 hours to unload. Its great to get paid hourly for a 10 hour break.

you and i are weekenders though. but that's beside the point.

a lot of companies won't let you park the truck to go home.

i could explain the scenarios i've had to encounter that have pissed me off. but that would be too much reading.

his point was. sitting for 3 days IN HIS TRUCK over a 3 day weekend. no loads to be had. instead of going home.

i've seen a lot of drivers camping in there trucks. 25 miles from home. and it's XMAS. or whatever holiday. becuase there companies won't let them go home. the truck has to be ready to roll.

and yet. the office is completely closed down for the holidays.

    that's just BS.

Sounds like you're saying you're waiting on another load.. why would you place your self on duty? Log off duty and go grab a shower, get something to eat, laundry, shop, take in a movie or whatever..

No way I do this. I have a cell phone. If they want to dispatch me they can call me at home and I can be at the truck within the hour. Those drivers are fools.
