What's up with truck speeds regulated to 25 on I-90?

The sisters? Hmm new one on me....but I'm guessin you mean 322 droppin off the hill round the resevoir into Milroy......The speed limit is a holdover(& we all think it is BS) from when that was a much steeper 2lane.....that culminated w/all but 90degree into town......and at one time had no speed restriction.....till an overloaded coal bucket killed a politicians kid 30 odd years ago......
Course now w/it bein all but an interstate.....its absurd......BUT word to the wise......Mos tix written on that ride are written as WTECKLESS not speeding......and that is a ticket you don't want...

    jus sayin :)

Guy from Philly and I were talking while waiting on pineapples to load, and we talked about that. I really enjoyed talking to that guy, which surprised me.

It's the 7 mountains area, but he called them the 7 Sisters. Going south and east, it is a 4 lane, the other way it's a 2 lane, and I don't get to the point of reckless, I did listen to a knowledgeable driver whom I greatly respected a long time ago.

One night I was heavy and the guy behind on the 2 lane was giving me heck for keeping it down to 5 over, and I just told him about the state trooper that passed me when I was going up the climb. He quit pestering me and backed off.I always assume if told it's all clear that it may be they were hiding too well to be seen, and I haven't been stopped, other than for a paper check, in a long time now.

I doubt you have ever heard about it, but a private road going down to a grain terminal on the Mississippi has a stretch of 16% grade and it was graveled. 3rd gear with full jakes and just a touch of the brake now and then with a heavy load of corn or beans.

I can't remember if they posted a speed on it or not, but they pulled fertilizer and other materials that were stored in a mine up that hill, too. They haul sand for glass making out of there to a few rail heads to load out.

Before they built that road, the trucks took the hwy down to the river and ran along to it, and every now and then, one would runaway and end up in the river.

On the other foot, the most inexperienced truck drivers are in cars, flying at an unhappy medium around them, so the law is not considering this very carefully.

Anyway, I'm not driving in that area, so my medium is happier.

Well 25--Im not surprised different drivers have different names for areas--I hadnt heard the sisters for that area--is why I asked--and obviously you were talking about the road I thought you were--and I agree the whole wreckless thing is unwarranted(especially s/e)just thru it out there as a warning..and of course the n/w portion is still 2 lane--but much shorter and not as steep--and also much less enforced--sad part is--that is typically where the problem lies since the intersection at the bottom is where most 4 wheelers(since that road--the old shortcut to 80)is restricted to trux)get impatient waiting and pull out...and many drivers who know the area--know it is a pretty good pull around the curve as the restriction ends and tend to crank it up a lil early.....BUT imho--the real issue is still s/e--where you have to try to pull out of the mandatory--while the 4 wheelers--who have been stuck behind slow moving trux are now racing in both lanes--and that IF you run down legally at 15 there are at least 3 blind corners where cars are runnin 70+ and come up on a slow truck--interestingly enough though there hasn't been a very serious ax in years--and remember that road leads away(or towards)the largest University in the state--and at the wrong time--the stampede of youngsters flyin out of town--paying attention to everything BUT driving--can get a little unnerving to say the least :)

I go from 60 to 0 all day in traffic, if they'd simply enforce following distance and keep the speeds relatively similar for all traffic, it would solve the problems that speed limits do not in themselves prevent. I can generally tell by driving a road what the speed limit will be, without even seeing a sign, and this one is rather odd.

Good diddly gosh, this is an outrage that we would have to follow a low speed limit down a grade.... that's it, I'm writing a letter..

Just curious OP....Why do you always edit your posts, for seemingly no other reason other than to add some cute little life musings in the "Reason for edit" spot?

Perhaps just too much time on your hands?
