I don't know about UPS as a good company i did a dedicated run for them this winter and the 3 driver i talker to every night said the company is going down the drain taking more and giving less, there pay was great but besides that they did"nt have much good to say, and fed ex they have adds in the paper or online every day around me looking for drivers.

For whatever reason, most LTL or parcel drivers swear their company and job stinks - I still havn't figured this out yet.

LOL man you are so right, jake!
Alot of the senior drivers will ##### about anything....and some of these guys live in $350k homes and have 2010 Dodge Challengers parked in the driveway and a loaded Caravan for their wives.
The way I figure it...and I could be wrong here...but alot of these guys were never OTR.
They hired straight into the company many years ago and LTL is all they know.
We both came from OTR and we know the score.
Working double the hours for 1/2 LTL pay plus live out of a sardine can...been there, done that.
I tell you what...every payday Friday I leave the yard headed home with a big ole' grin on my face!!! :biggrin_2559:

Seems like someone else told him this same thing in another of Oldnew's threads. Who was that masked man?:biggrin_25511:

Back to the topic at hand, ONGB really wants to do OTR and doesn't care about hometime. While I know he appreciates everyone's posts on here, as do I, they're not helping him find an OTR, irregular route carrier that's better than the likes of Swift, PAM, Werner, et al.

CFI always had a pretty solid reputation, and now that they're ConWay (another reputable carrier IMO) I would logically assume they're still a good place to be.

I need to call Conway again. I talked with them about a month ago (maybe 2 months) and was told they were only hiring husband/wife teams. Maybe that's changed. They are definitely a carrier I would consider if they would take me on. They have a small (LTL?) yard in Gulfport, MS-about a 15 minute drive from my house!

As someone mentioned in another of your threads, a whole lot of large carriers are going to teams for OTR. I don't think it's got as much to do with the railroad like that poster so much as it has to do with HOS and other regs.

No I haven't. I've been going with an assumption that cos like UPS and FedEx are not training companies. Do they have OOs that haul for them?

I was assuming you wanted to run OTR but I should know better than to assume. Like I've said in other posts with firsthand knowledge, Con-way Freight, FedEx Freight, and UPS Freight all have hired drivers with no driving experience - and this is recent.

LTL is not for everyone, but those little yards you see down there with a few FedEx or Con-way wagons against a small dock hold serious jobs inside. You won't go real far or have a fancy double bunk but your W2's always look real good.

I do want OTR. Walleye mentioned that UPS Freight Truckload has OTR possibilities. Also, maybe I didn't approach Con-Way correctly....maybe I asked the wrong questions. I've gotta dig somemore. Thanks for another heads-up!
