automatic trans are a pain in the butt. it is more true when you are stuck in mud or snow. when you are pulling up hill I like to choose my own gear. The first auto I used
was an Eaton Fuller Auto Shift 10 Road Ranger. When in "H" mode it was fair. You press a button instead moving the stick. The "auto mode" sucked. In that mode you
cannot use C-Brake. I am sure some of you road hogs will agree with me.

I've driven some older automatics and hated them when I was backing, though they where nice in traffic jams.
I almost wrecked a few times backing into spaces because the #### thing would lurch a few feet without warning!
With parking being a game of inches sometimes...lurching is not a good thing.
I don't know if the newer ones are any better.

I've never driven an automatic but keep in mind if you don't know how to drive a straight 10,you'll have to go thru training all over if the next company you choose has manual transmission I reckon.

Unfortunately many design engineers are mediocre at best. And the companies that hire them don't seem to care.
That is the reason new crap keeps coming up with new designs. But some do excellent work.
While it is possible to design an automatic transmission that can do a better job than most experienced drivers, don't hold your breath.
Chances are excellent that someone will come along to screw it all up. (like the boss or some efficiency expert.)
Ford really screwed up the speed control so bad that only a fool would dare to use it. I guess they thought perfect wasn't good enough. (referring to my 2009 RV versus my 1989 RV)
The best drivers have good reasons for preferring a stick shift for now. And design attitudes for the most part are not getting better.
