That's why he hauls three cars at a time and gets $2+ mile. Picked three up in fairax all within a mile of each other, took them to Chicago to the same place, 700 miles at over $2 a mile. Trailers paid 2.30 going to Virginia, about 70 miles deadhead from drop off to pick up, and 100 miles from last drop off to yard in Indiana. So, 750x2.30 is 1725, 700x2.10 minus the company 20% for backhaul is 1176. Add $100 for the last one being an INOP that was a hassle to load, $1276. $1276+1725=$3001 gross for approximately 1700 miles including deadhead, 1.76 a mile.

He would have made more but one of his vehicles was longer than advertised and cut out a good paying vehicle he couldn't fit, that's where the inop came in instead.

Imagine the numbers i could post if indidnt take time into the equation. You need to calculate your daily average. None of the 53' haulers make more than we do in the tow hauls on average, ae know three of them as personal friends. Perhaps your dad is a super trucker or younhave failed to properly audit your actual avg income daily and per mile vs the odometer. We are also some of the very best at what we do , having done this for 5 years with a fleet of 4 trucks. Also i sure hope your excluding the transport companies percentage taken from the reload backhauls....

i agree i am looking for experiences from people running a straight truck at landstar not rv haulers. Dont mean to argue or sound like a know it all but trust me when i say i realllllly know the multi rv haul industry well. I know nothing of landstar/express america

TowHaul is calculating all time, and you don' need to do that or you will be sick. I'e been crunching numbers for 5 years now to get knowledge of owning my own truck and talking to companies like my dad's and then one I work for. If you try to base any other pay off of another and add all work together, you will be sick. Every company and owner op. that I've talked to versitility is a key.

The difference in fuel economy between 53' and haul and tow need to be factored in also . I drive haul and tow - friend drives 53' . Per mile average $ at end of year about equals out .

My dad’s KW t600 with a 120 inch sleeper gets over 7 mpg and up to 8 mpg. He usually averages over $2.00 per mile and sometimes $3 a mile. They just take the loads out of Indiana and then backhaul anywhere the money is, not trying to rush back to Indiana. He has put big equipment on his trailer that can pay $2/ mile for a single truck or piece of equipment and he is plated for 80k. It may take him four or five days to get back to Indiana, but he isn’t concerned about it, he follows the money. His company even told him he is one of the few guys that makes them a lot on the backhaul.

From my experience with landstar and a indiana rv haul company the rv camper hauling is consistant regular pay with zero stress for time schedules. Landstar could possibly pay more but miles are alot less

The whole expedited freight was a total nightmare, "agents" which is just a term for slick high pressure salesmen constantly call day and night asking you to drop everything to pickup a load paying below $2 (typically) going about roughly 400 miles on average. The only advantage i saw was that you did not have a trailer tied onto the back of you adding a extra 35+ FEET which made parking at night a challenge.
