I personally would never touch ANY new truck...they are all plastic junk with sensors running sensors. If my job said I had to have a new truck, Id simply give em my notice and look elsewhere where I can run my pre emission and problem free trucks...

He really liked the trucks themselves, the warranty, the people at the dealer, and on test drives said the Volvo was nicer to drive.

Hopefully he will be happy with the new volvos.

I've got the same hendrickson suspension and Rockwell rears in my Volvo as most of the logging and other heavy spec trucks out here. You'll find most of the negative comments are from people that dont actually own one. These trucks are work horses like any of the others. And the proprietary engines actually last and thrive on our terrain in BC. Deleted properly and cranked up and they are unstoppable compared to the alternatives. Although no longer available, I wouldn't trade my D16 for anything. Passing tandems with an up to weight tridem never gets old.

Much like the age old pickup debate, everyone's got an emotionally driven opinion.

I had the same decision to make last year, Volvo 760, KW T680 or WS5700XE.

Choose the Volvo and haven't looked back. D13/iShift 500/1850, I did get the Hendrickson 13.2K Front and Meritor Super 40's for diff's, as most of the issues I had in the past with Volvo; were from the Volvo branded 12.5K front and 38K rears.

175 000kms now and 11 months run time, no major issues, if it had 3 axle disc brakes, would be the perfect truck IMHO.

If everything else is equal , I'd take the KW simply because it will have better resale value when the time comes.

A company I know test drove a tridrive Volvo VNX when they still had the D16 motor in them paired with the automatic. It was a great riding truck, good power but it was only 40,000km old and the interior was already starting to fall apart. They decided against them based on resale value mostly.

I owned volvos only 2001 770 D60, 2008 780 D13 and now i'm driving 780/2010/D13 , not perfect, ok for highway, good on fuel economy, but with all of them i had suspension frame issues after 700-800k hwy miles. Perhaps VNX is different beast, but imo KW has better designed suspension, springs, shocks for heavy loads and dirt roads, better cab suspension , plus bolted frame easy to work /fix not huck bolt like Volvo.
