The nasty stuff that I ever worked with the driver pulled the tanker and that was it. Personnel at the shipper or receiver did the loading and unloading. Sulfur dioxide & chlorine. A small whiff of sulfur doxide will knock you down. A big whiff and you shoulg have had your will already made out. Somewhere on here is a video of a state trooper responding to an anhydrous ammonia tank when the pickup pulling it crashed. Trooper knew nothing about anhydrous. Terrible video. Hard to watch a man die.

I have worked with anhydrous. It's scary.. people breathe it in, the lungs slowly fill with water as the tissue dies.

It was a staged event from what I can find. Great training video though.

When I hauled any chemical that was an inhalation hazard, I always brought it back and our tankwash dealt with it.
I was unloading aqua ammonia at a difficult customer and it was only my second pump off. Long story short, I forgot to clear the pressure out of the line all the way and when I loosened the camloclks (after testing as shown by another driver, which did nothing apparently) the hose popped off and hit my respirator just enough to dislodge it and fill my mask with ammonia and then it resealed. I was holding my breath when I felt the seal lose integrity but I ran out of air trying to secure the hose and stand up to move away. Took a small whiff and it took everything I had not to pass out amd not to panic . I got lucky and wasnt hurt, but it scared me pretty badly

    Use a repirator(offcourse)
It will either be closed system or vent using a scrubber.
A scrubber is used with some products,it neutralises the gases into a harmless vapor by way off a chemical reaction.

Dont remember alot pf the details, But my 1st week training at QC we aired off something that was an inhalation hazard.
All i do recall is when releasing the pressure for the tank we took the air line for the trucks compressor and let it run out thru a large container of wate
Also recall have no quick coupling, we had to bolt the hose to the tank

Use to haul a inhalation hazard product from Laporte tx to Longview tx. It would b preloaded on a ISO container. I would suit up put on my respirator, then on these particular ISO containers, you had 2 caps on top of the ISO that u needed a pipe wrench 2 unscrew. Once u unscrewed these caps, u would hook up the customer product hose on one side, then u would hook the nitrogen line on the other side. Then you pressurize the ISO 2 about 25 to 30 psi. After u pressurize the tank,u open the lever 4 the cust hose and let the product flow into the cuts tanks. So basically you use nitrogen 2 unload inhalation products.

used to deliver one for Air Products, came from the mid west.

Required a gravity drop with the tank vent returned to a washout.

After dropping he product the vent hose was switched to my pump and we pumped the spent containers back into the trailer using a drum thief. The plant people handled that part. The spent drums were supposed to be in the safety room [had a blow out wall in case this stuff went off] but the usually had extra drums scattered around the whole place.

I don't know if Miranol is still in business but they closed down the place where I used to deliver.
