Heck you'd need a drink too if the thinga-majiggy wasn't injecting the doohickey because voltage from the gizmo wasn't reading right in the thingamabob.

He could be on the autism spectrum

From your description it sounds like he might be: Wanting things to be right, not cutting corners or ripping you off...'Idiot savant' is what they used to call it

Alcoholism is a common way to deal with anxiety and sensory overload for those on the spectrum. Works for me anyway

Unfortunately, a high percentage of the better transmission rebuilders and RR men I hired over 25 years were severe alcoholics..
Why I do not know, but it was common issue.

    Ive been there for sure.

Also, mechanic-ing sure would be easy if those engineers wouldnt put unnecessary component things next to what youre working on in the engine compartment, for instance, the ac compressor bolts you need to get to would be a lot easier without that stupid water pump in the way....

It all depends on the person. Some people just know their #### drunk or sober. Some people, like me, know they have a job to do. For instance, whenever I drink heavy, I sleep it off and wake up extremely early. I feel like I didn't drink a thing the night before. I think everyone needs to get that hammered and get a soul cleansing sleep here and there lol, but seriously that works for me. Not everyone can do that. I've seen many mechanics, #### good ones too, get hammered and do some of the best work. It seems to me the ones that do the best work, love what they do, whether they drink like a fish or not.
