Why do companis third party their lumped service?

    The same reason why the shippers and receivers dont only use their own trucking companies to haul their product.

    its cheaper for me to "hire" a third party company to unload than to hire my own people

    if its cheaper for me its cheaper for my customers

    Walmart drivers deliver to Walmart stores.
    Incoming freight to the DC's is handled by many carriers.

    I don't know if Walmart drivers also handle long haul from a supplier to the DC, but I do a LOT of Walmart loads going to DC's as a Swift driver.
    During peak times I've also delivered to Walmart stores.
