Could be they are waiting to get a hole punch so they can put the hook in and now have a handy short bungee. Hey , that's a good idea, now I don't have to tie a knot in the bungee to make it shorter to fasten the oversize banner to the front bumper.

Tying a knot in a bungee will compromise the working load and shorten the life of your bungee and your left eye.

How is antenna's pointed forward and chicken lights individuality??

They look just like the other 300,000 trucks they're copying. To have individuality, one needs to come up with their own ideas like in a paint scheme or bungee cords hanging off your steps. :)

I guarantee you next year, there will be a bunch more hanging bungee cords off their steps. They don't know why. They just know the next guy is doing it.

It's like keeping up with the Jones's.

I was gonna say stretchability or tensil strength but I didn't want to get too technical about it. I figured folks would know what I was getting at. I guess I figured wrong.:biggrin_25512:

So far, I'd say that the best guess is the good-buddy speculation. Maybe it's some sort of identification thing so they can find each other. I suppose they could even have it set up to identify each other by size. For example, nine inches of rubber hanging down would represent, well...a nine incher. A four inch bungee would be a short guy who is painfully honest, but probably isn't very popular. A 14" bungee would represent a big...liar. Etc. etc.

I asked a guy about it this morning because he had about 6 or 7 rubber straps hanging from his passenger footboard and this was what he told me...

"They ground the truck and prevent electrical shocks and also protect the electrical system in case of a lightning strike."

He said this with a perfectly straight face so I suppose he actually believes it.

So I said...." But they're rubber so how could they do that?" and he replied that he didn't know but.....Wait for it.....Wait for it....

"Another driver at my company told me how to do it!"

In order to not hurt his feelings I just said..."That's pretty interesting.." and then I walked away shaking my head in wonder at the sheer stupidity of such things.:biggrin_2559:
