Why do many carriers have "waiting lists" for driving positions?

Yeah I'm trying to get out of fuel tanker after two years. It's crazy I could jump right to another company doing that, but not day cab van or reefer...

They’re just like every company. They want you eagerly waiting on the couch ready to go to work at a moment’s notice.

With all due respect -- there's of course other forms of hazmat tanker besides just fuel.

If you have 2 years of fuel experience under your belt -- with a good safety record -- I would submit that you just haven't knocked on the right door(s).

Where are you located (zip code)?

The people that believe media have many problems. There has never been a driver shortage, just media reports.

On the other hand... we get nearly all of our information from media.
The little we don't comes just from personal experience in our own little bubble.
And that is a very small bubble in a very large ocean.

Are you making a change for the sake of making a change? Is hauling fuel not working? Drivers need to stay put for a good while, unless they're going OTR.

You will never find a shortage of people who want to work local or regional. OTR jobs will always be readily available for obvious reasons. That's why I always say, the driver shortage thing depends on who you ask and what sectors.

In many/most cases....a fuel hauler's job begins by working nights, weekends, and also on holidays. This could go on for months or years -- until a more desirable shift becomes available (i.e., shifts are usually seniority-based).

Many drivers finally tire of this sort of wait & schedule -- and thus, a fuel job Is "not working".

The above issue also explains at least part of the turnover in many cryogenic delivery jobs. Drivers simply tire of having a job that is out-of-phase with everyone else that may be around them. :(

    Been there, done that.....o_O

Like the story of the drunk that lost his keys and looks for them under the street light at the end of the street instead of where he dropped them. Everyone watching the media complains how biased, click-bait, unreliable, etc but they keep going back to that biased, click-bait, unreliable sources. Go find other sources that aren't those things. Make choices like the results matter.

"Waiting list"? :laughing-guffaw::laughing5::laughing2:, for a trucking job, you say? Good heavens, sounds like a polite way of saying , don't call us, we'll call you. Tell you what, from what I hear coming through here lately, I'd sure hate to be a soon to be graduate of any trucking school. This is merely my take, but not far off, I think the ins. companies have put the kabosh on hiring graduates. Your post kind of derails that, I mean, if a company looking for a driver puts a suicide jocky, WITH EXPERIENCE, what I would consider the cream of the crop, on a waiting list , we're in worse shape than I thought. I guess I'd be interested too, what's with the current job?

To tscottme^, I am a true NON-believer in media of most kinds, save this site, which I have a kindred attraction to. Even some of MJDs posts of mishaps could be fabricated by the news agency for more zing. I tune into the "news" merely to see what kind of baloney they can fabricate from a possible credible story. Many don't have any other outlets than the TV, and dismiss that as fact. Many folks in my apt. complex don't have a computer( not that it's any bargain) and rely on good ol' channel 9 news. Besides, I live near religious nuts that think, "well, it's in Gods hands now", and probably couldn't handle the truth anyway.

How good is the money in hauling fuel/cryogenic?
