In your case that is along time ago and you need to show the company and their insurance you are fit to drive the truck in this day and age. Most people I have ran into that had old experience were a waste of time for the trainers who had to go out with them I have heard, but a few weren't.

Especially if the Old driver knows more than the trainer does.

Personally, I like the idea of starting my own company or better yet, finding one to buy and get the miles and time in with the Guy who works for me as my driver.

I haven't drive for about 6 years and I am looking at buying two trucks right now (Cash) I am also looking at buying a business from a guy who has 2 trucks with 2 drivers. I too was thinking about going through a school, but they want me to sit through 160 hours. (Too long). I passed on the deal.

Sounds like your heading in the right direction Big Mikey. I wish I could buy one myself. By the way my name is Michael also. H!LL I'm in Louisian and will ride with you until it all comes back if you need me too. Shot we may even be able to help each other out as far as teaching ecah other. I'm seriously thinking about getting back on the road, but I think a school will not teach me one thing. I'm one that can stay out 2 or so months at a time. I'm very very safe, courtious, respectful of others on the road. I know what that truck can do espicailly if loaded. I'll put you in my prayers, best of luck and god bless.

Because that's the scam of the CDL. Trucking schools get rich without ever prequalifying anybody. They just push them through and collect their checks. A lot of trucking companies are getting in on the act because that's where the money is when the economy is in the tank.
The CDL didn't get rid of bad drivers, it just causes a high turnover that schools are cashing in on.
Quite frankly, there is no law that prohibits you from driving as long as you are able to pass the CDL tests. Truck drivers are considered laborers by the Dept. of Labor and there is NO industry standard in place such as an apprenticeship. You are not required by law to attend school. But good luck finding a company to hire you without it. Most of those who require it have a high turn over rate. I'll let you speculate on why that is.
Also, the Dept of Labor won't guarantee your wages either, regardless of what the company promised you. Laborers can file for 40 hours a week at minimum wage. If they don't pay you, you can find another job. That's your only recourse.
Welcome to the real world of truck driving, son.
